PTLLS to AET: what changed?

Why this former PTLLS website now focuses on the Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) was the introductory teaching qualification around which this website was originally built. The site contained genuine assignments completed for a Level 4 PTLLS course. The qualification framework later changed, and the Award in Education and Training (AET) became the relevant introductory qualification.

Many underlying subjects remain recognisable: the teacher's role, legislation, equality, learner needs, inclusive teaching, ground rules, assessment and reflection. However, the qualification structure, assessment criteria, legislation and terminology are not identical. For that reason the old papers are no longer presented as if they were current model answers.

Why the original papers are no longer the main public pages

The original papers are valuable historical documents, but keeping them indexed alongside rewritten AET pages would create two versions of the same subject: one current and one containing outdated references. That could confuse students and make it harder for search engines to understand which page should represent the topic today.

The old public assignment URLs are therefore being redirected to their closest current AET replacements. The original papers remain preserved separately by the site owner rather than being used as competing current study pages.

Is the new material still based on the original work?

Yes. The modern pages retain genuine examples where they remain useful. The Operations Management examples, the Employee Training micro-teach, questioning techniques, case studies, assessment practice and other first-hand elements came from the original work. Where the current AET requires something the older paper did not cover sufficiently, new material has been added.

Where should I start?

If you are studying the current Award in Education and Training, use the AET essays and examples page rather than looking for the old PTLLS assignment numbers.
